Mommy Money Mind

It is the holiday season and hopefully you can relate to this as a mom, but money is on my mind. I am thinking of how much money I am going to spend on Christmas gifts, Halloween and preparing the dinner for Thanksgiving. Several years ago I did a huge overhaul of my life. I grabbed hold of all the things that I wanted to improve and change. My motivation for this was the birth of my daughter. I saw her beautiful fingers and toes and I realized that I had a greater purpose in my life. I am not sure why this did not hit me before I had her, but it is something about seeing this child who is so dependent on you that makes you step it up. I decided to step it up on my mental health. Even though I was a therapist, I still wanted to make sure that I improved in this area. I also wanted to step it up regarding my money. I was pretty good with money in terms of budgeting, but there was something that was off. I was in debt and I felt like my money was managing me and I was not in full control. I began to learn more about money through podcasts and books. I made a commitment to myself to learn as much as possible. We are three years in and I still want to learn more. The biggest lesson is how I was viewing my money. I was looking at it as it was bad and was running away from it rather than embracing it. When the holidays come around this becomes the biggest battle within myself. I have a budget and the holidays challenge that budget. I love buying all the random pretty fall items and decorations for my home. I love it and the way it makes my family feel. I am learning to appreciate my money and that is brings me the opportunity to have fun, joy and experiences with the people I love the most. As long as I continue to understand that the money that comes in and even goes out allows me to be able to be the best mom I can be…that is truly all that matters.
