How Kids Grow Like Plants

My daughter brought home a cup with a pumpkin seed in it. This happens a lot and what usually happens is after a few days of no one watering the plant it goes in the trash. Of course, I do this all in hiding as I do not want the hard work my daughter spent planting this with her teachers to go to waste. Though this time it was different. The plant came home with us on Thursday and hid in a corner by our spices never to be seen through the weekend. On Sunday, my daughter noticed that it was there. Great! She moved it to our counter and on Monday morning I saw a little green plant start to come out of it. We watered it a little bit because we were so shocked that it started to sprout. On Monday I had clients to see and my husband was home. We played music throughout the day ad snuck in a few laughs in between clients. I turned around to see the plant had grown. I went to pick up my daughter and we decided to bake Sour Cream and Onion Biscuits. I know it sounds weird, but it is so good. Laughter filled the kitchen as my daughter wanted to eat the flour and butter mixture. It had been a long time since we laughed in the kitchen and baked together. She said “Mommy, I can’t remember the last time we did this.” I turned around and we both looked in awe at the plant. Within a few hours it had grown tall, looking at us so that we notice it’s beautiful green stem. I even saw a pumpkin seed come out. My husband came home and wondered why it had sprouted so much. He wanted to know did we water it or did something special. I said no. I told him that today was a great day. I was present moment focused, I laughed with my daughter and I didn’t think of any stressors. I told him that the plant was so happy too. It was the first day in a while that laughter had filled our house. We have been so busy lately. I don’t care how much my daughter grows, I will always remind her of the plant that grew when laughter filled our home.
